German Pavilion for Barcelona's International expo:
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) designed in 1929 the German Pavilion for Barcelona's International exposition.The set of exempt planes, The free designing of the ground plan,the indoor-outdoor continuity through the large glass panels and the reflections of marble, glass and water surfaces,meant the idea of freedom and progress of the new German republic after the first world war.Is the archetypal example of simplicity and rigor constructive defined by Mies: "less is more".The design is based on a 1.09 m2 module.Has an area of 1000 m2 and a size of 56.62 x 18. 48 m.It raised on a plinth of travertine of Tivoli.The walls are green Alpine marble, Tinos Greece and golden onyx from Atlas.The eight metallic cross-shaped pillars are coated with steel sheet chromed. The actual building is a replica built between 1983 and 1986. |
